The reconstruction of the Central Stadium in Kazan is nearing completion. Next week, the renovated facility will host track and field competitions as part of the BRICS Games with the participation of 226 athletes. For the international event, new tracks 400 meters long were laid at the stadium, the seats in the stands for 15 thousand spectators were replaced, and the facade of the building and galleries were repaired. Repairs have already been completed in the football and track and field arena, which will become a training ground. After the BRICS Games, more than five thousand Kazan athletes and students of sports schools will be able to train at the Central Stadium. Before the start of the international competition, the mayor of the city, Ilsur Metshin, inspected the renovated facility.

In six months, workers completed waterproofing of the stands at the Central Stadium and installed new seats for 15 thousand spectators. The color scheme of the seats was discussed jointly with the Kazan Development Institute. Thus, the terracotta, gray and white colors match the nearby Kazan Kremlin, and the shade of the canopies mounted above the stands echoes the turquoise roof of the Kul Sharif Mosque. The two main spectator screens of the stadium's sports core were replaced with LED monitors with HD resolution.

During the major repairs, new entrance doors were installed in the sports pavilion on the first floor and on the staircase structures of the stands. New plumbing was installed in the public toilets of the galleries. Concrete structures were renovated, walls and beams in the galleries were reinforced. The roof and facade of the building were repaired, utility and low-current networks were reinstalled, electrical installation work was carried out.

Currently, specialists are marking the 400-meter athletics tracks. The new surface is made of environmentally friendly and wear-resistant rubber. Durable material from a Chinese manufacturer is suitable for frequent use and also creates a cushioning effect, which reduces muscle fatigue and the risk of microtrauma in athletes. Repair work at the arena has been fully completed to date: dismantling worn-out and laying new running tracks, repairing jumping pits, applying markings and replacing doors. After the BRICS Games, the artificial filler that was laid in 2020 will be replaced on the football field.

After the renovation of the entrance groups, the territory of the Central Stadium was also improved. A new asphalt surface was laid on the parking lot in front of the sports facility with an area of 23.2 thousand square meters, sidewalks were laid on an area of 11.8 thousand square meters. Additional lamps were installed on seven existing outdoor lighting poles, five 20-meter masts with six spotlights on each were mounted, as well as nine 9-meter poles with lamps.

The BRICS Games will be held in the capital of Tatarstan from June 12 to 23. At the Central Stadium, athletes will compete in running, relay races, high jump, shot throw and put, heptathlon and decathlon. The participants will compete for 42 sets of medals. A total of 4.7 thousand athletes and delegation members are expected to arrive for the international Games. Competitions will be held in 29 sports (including 20 Olympic ones) at 16 sports facilities, including two that are on the city's balance sheet - the Central Stadium and the Boxing and Table Tennis Center. The latter is also currently completing a major overhaul.

Today, the Central Stadium was visited by the head of the Vakhitovsky and Privolzhsky districts administration Albert Salikhov, chairman of the physical culture and sports committee Linar Garipov, director of the Kazan Central Stadium Ilgiz Fakhriev, deputy director of the State Institution "Glavinveststroy RT" Airat Nadrshin and others.
