A solemn ceremony of awarding the winners of an open international competition for the development of a draft design of the Cathedral Mosque of Kazan and the surrounding area was held in the Kazan City Hall. The event was attended by President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, Minister of Construction and Housing and Communal Services of the Russian Federation Irek Fayzullin, State Adviser of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev, Minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing and Communal Services of the Republic of Tatarstan Marat Aizatullin.
The official start of the competition was given on April 1. Both Russian and foreign companies took part in the competition. In total, more than 40 applications were submitted from 8 countries. 18 teams from Russia, UAE, Turkey, Egypt, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan reached the final.
By the decision of the jury, the first place was shared by 2 projects - the architectural and restoration bureau “Ginzburg Architect” (Moscow) and architect Aivar Sattarov from Kazan.
Irek Faizullin highly appreciated all the projects presented. “Each of them had its own zest. In such a beautiful city as Kazan, there should really be a monument that will remain for centuries. Thanks to all the participants. There is still a lot of work waiting for us in the future,” the minister said.
Rustam Minnikhanov noted that representatives of many countries took part in the development of the project of the Cathedral Mosque. “I would like to thank all the participants of the contest. Each work is unique. I loved all your projects, they are very worthy. We have got the look so far, but we still have a lot of work to do. We will try to embody your images in our other objects, both in mosques and temples,” the President of the Republic of Tatarstan noted.
