27 May 2024, Monday

Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin held an off-site meeting at the site as part of preparations for the BRICS events. The monument will soon have its granite covering renewed, a flower bed will be arranged, and a thousand roses will be planted.

“This year, thanks to preparations for the BRICS summit, work has been carried out at 16 green areas, one of which is the entrance to Gorky Park. The first large-scale improvement was carried out for the 1000th anniversary of Kazan, the next one – for the 2013 Universiade. The city is growing, and so is the demand for this park, there is a large flow of people, so there was a need to improve the entrance area and update the underground pedestrian crossing. In addition, we are faced with the task of maximally restoring the historical appearance of the memorial composition. As of today, a third of the work has already been completed. By the end of August, they will be completed,” Ilsur Metshin noted.

Work on laying the granite covering on the approaches and stairs to the monument of the memorial complex will begin next week. Currently, preparatory work is underway to install hidden subsystems for fastening the granite. Three types of new granite will be used on the monument - "gray rock", "black galaxy" and "royal white" - in two colors (dark and light). This color scheme was selected by the project's architects based on historical photographs. This granite is resistant to high and low temperatures, durable and indestructible even with heavy traffic, and is also incredibly beautiful.

The stele itself will remain intact. Its good condition has been confirmed by an inspection of the structure's condition. The inscriptions on the monument, the star at the Eternal Flame and the backlight, where many elements already have defects, are planned to be replaced; preparatory work is already underway.

A flower bed with roses is being arranged on the square near the park - it will visually connect the square with the monument. It is planned to plant a thousand roses on it. Last autumn, as part of the first stage of improvement, lilacs were planted in tubs - due to the fact that there is an underground parking lot under the square, it will not be possible to plant trees, the supporting structures of the parking lot are not designed to accommodate a layer of soil sufficient for trees above them.

Previously, there was a functional road behind the monument, now two-thirds of it is closed, only the entrance to the gates of the Trudovye Rezervy stadium remains. The fence of the sports complex on the side of Ershova Street will also be updated: a green canopy with a perforated pattern of trees will appear on the red brick fence, the fence of the sports ground will be completely replaced.

Almost half of the work on the arrangement of the bus stop pavilion on the opposite side from the Korston State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company is complete. This stop will be slightly smaller than the one on the side of the park, but will retain its appearance. Work is underway to reconstruct the utility networks.

The turnaround loop - the area between the Arskoye Cemetery and the monument - will become a green zone with bicycle paths. Work is nearing completion on laying a new sidewalk covering with landscaping on an area of over one thousand square meters. An automatic watering system is also being installed on the green area, and the installation of a video surveillance system is half complete.

Concrete has been poured on the bike path for laying a new asphalt concrete covering. Workers have applied markings to the covering and installed 17 lighting poles. 21 small architectural forms are also being installed on the turnaround loop section.

Workers are completing the reconstruction of the underground crossing, 72% of the work has been completed. The dismantling of the retail pavilions has been completed, with waterproofing of the walls and expansion joints installed to prevent flooding. Old utility lines have been re-laid, and granite paving has almost been laid. Video surveillance will be installed in the crossing, and the outdoor lighting will be reinforced with 32 lamps. The next stage is planned to be painting the walls.

Let us recall that the entrance group of the Gorky Central Park of Culture and Leisure includes the memorial complex "Monument to the Fighters for Soviet Power", two "Gorky Park" stops, an underground passage and a turnaround loop at the intersection of N. Ershova and Vishnevsky streets. Last year, as part of a large-scale reconstruction, a landscaped parade area was created in front of the monument, the public transport stop area and descents into the underground pedestrian crossing were changed. This year, as part of the city's preparations for the BRICS summit, the monument itself, the underground pedestrian crossing and the bus stop pavilion on the opposite side of the Korston State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company are being renovated.
