Major repairs are nearing completion at the Boxing and Table Tennis Center in Kazan. In June, the facility will host the BRICS Games competitions, and after that, up to two thousand children will be able to train in the renovated building with an area of 17 thousand square meters. For the upcoming competitions, 30 new tennis tables and six boxing rings were purchased for the center, and the main tournament hall will accommodate 1,800 spectators. Kazan Mayor Ilsur Metshin assessed the progress of the repair work.
The main venue during the BRICS Games table tennis and boxing competitions will be the main hall with a total area of 2.2 thousand square meters and 1,800 seats. The flooring, lighting, and LED screen were updated in the hall for the competitions. In the boxing and table tennis halls, the flooring and sports equipment were replaced, the lighting and equipment were updated, and the premises were renovated.
“Very soon, Kazan will host a major international event – the BRICS Games. We will host 5.5 thousand participants from more than 100 countries. Millions of sports fans all over the world will watch the sports battles. But the BRICS Games are not only a prestigious sports tournament and an opportunity to announce Kazan at the global level. For us, this is also a great opportunity to update the sports facilities where Kazan residents train. One of them is the Boxing and Table Tennis Center, which was one of the first facilities built for the Universiade. Over the past years, many technologies and materials have changed and the center needs to be updated. The BRICS Games competitions will be held in this center for two weeks. After which two thousand young athletes will be able to hone their skills in comfortable conditions for many years to come,” noted Ilsur Metshin.
128 athletes are expected to participate in the BRICS Games table tennis competitions, which will be held from June 19 to 22. Four sets of medals will be contested in team and individual competitions. 156 athletes will arrive for the boxing tournament, men and women will compete in several weight categories. The competition will be held from June 13 to 16, 25 sets of medals will be awarded.
After the BRICS Games, about 400 young tennis players, 400 boxers, 600 gymnasts and football players will be training in the sports center on a permanent basis.
New engineering systems have been completely installed in the building. More than 90% of the installation of low-current networks, ventilation, power supply, air conditioning and heating, water supply and drainage systems has been completed, and the interior decoration and landscaping of the territory have been almost completed.
