Emergency work on the Al-Marjani mosque includes repairing the roof, strengthening the facade of the mosque, shut-off waterproofing, strengthening the basement walls, and strengthening the foundation.
In the course of further repair and restoration work of the entire complex, it is planned to return the facades to their historical appearance, update the roof, utility networks, and purchase new equipment and furniture.
The Al-Marjani Mosque was originally called the First Cathedral, Yunusovskaya. It is one of the earliest stone mosques in the city. Its volumetric and planning composition comes from wooden Tatar mosques with a central minaret, characteristic of the local region. The building of the mosque in the first, after 1552, officially registered Muslim parish of the city of Kazan was built with the personal permission of Catherine II in 1766-1770, by local Tatar craftsmen according to the design of the provincial architect V.I. Kaftyrev at the expense of parishioners.
