In Kazan, after a major overhaul, the sports and health camp "Young Guard" is in a high state of readiness. Thanks to the construction of 10 buildings, including four heated ones, it will be able to operate year-round and accommodate 170 more children during the summer. Each building is now adapted for recreation of people with disabilities. New sports grounds have been built on the territory, a football field has been laid, and a canteen and club buildings have been erected. The Mayor of Kazan, Ilsur Metshin, inspected the progress of the camp's preparations for opening.
Next week, the sports and health camp "Young Guard" will accept the first shift of Kazan children after a three-year major overhaul. Over the summer, 1,120 children and teenagers will be able to rest there, whereas previously the camp accommodated no more than 950 people. In addition to the increase in the number of places, the recreation conditions have also changed significantly.
The "Young Guard" camp in the "Lebyazhye" forest park was built in 1932, and was last reconstructed in 1961. The buildings were not equipped with sewerage and running water, so the toilet in the camp before the renovation was located in a separate building, and washbasins were installed right outside. The buildings themselves were not heated.
During the work on the territory of 9.37 hectares, almost all the old buildings were demolished. In their place, 10 dormitory buildings and 2 administrative buildings were built. They have running water and sewerage. The buildings, each with a capacity of up to 30 people, are equipped with a laundry, showers, drying and ironing rooms. The bedrooms are equipped with beds, bedside tables and wardrobes, and the halls have sofas, tables and TVs. Also built were a clubhouse, a canteen for 280 people, a first aid station, gazebos, and a checkpoint. Heating has been installed in four dormitory buildings and the canteen building, which allows the camp to be used all year round.
“To date, we have reconstructed four children’s health camps, due to which their capacity has increased by 50–75%, and most importantly, the conditions for recreation have changed dramatically. Now, “Young Guard” has risen like a phoenix from the ashes. In fact, we have not only renovated, but rebuilt the camp from scratch – with new materials and technologies, new content, new quality,” said Ilsur Metshin during his visit to the camp.
In addition, the camp is equipped for recreation for people with disabilities: each building has not only lifts and ramps, but also one equipped room for two people with disabilities.
The medical center on the camp grounds will be open 24 hours a day. The building has two wards for patients, a treatment room, and doctor’s and nurse’s offices. The final work is currently being completed in the premises, which will also be heated – equipment is being installed.
Earlier, Ilsur Metshin instructed to increase the number of shifts so that as many children as possible could have a rest this summer, so this season, instead of the traditional four shifts, five will be opened in the Molodaya Gvardiya camp. This became possible due to the earlier start of the institution's work and the reduction of the break between visits to two days. Each shift will last the usual 18 days. During the shift, 280 people will be able to rest in the camp in the warm season and 112 in the cold season. The grand opening is scheduled for June 1, Children's Day.
Deputy Director of the State Institution "Glavinveststroy RT" Viktor Nikitenko also took part in the inspection of the Molodaya Gvardiya camp.
