The building of the Kazan Art School named after. N.I. Feshina (Karl Marx St., 70) was inspected today by the Rais of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov. The restored building was also visited by the State Councilor of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev and the Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan Farid Mukhametshin.
The building is a monument of urban planning and architecture of federal significance. Built in 1900-1904 by architect K.L. Müfke. Construction took place under the direction of the Imperial Academy of Arts; the building was initially erected as a reference building for fine arts.
Repair and restoration (started in 2019) of this cultural heritage site were carried out in several stages.
During today's inspection, Rustam Minnikhanov was told about the stages and complexity of restoration work and the use of building materials. Explanations during the inspection were given by the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan Irada Ayupova. On three floors of the art school there are classrooms, workshops, assembly and reading rooms, a school museum, an exhibition hall, etc.
The building is known for its original architectural elements, including giant stained glass windows on the façade windows, a glass tent at the top from which daylight penetrates all floors of the building, inclined windows to diffuse natural light in the manner desired by the artist, numerous stucco moldings, parquet flooring and stair railings decorated original pattern.
In particular, Rustam Minnikhanov was told about the work done to restore the elements of the central staircase and railings (some of the original elements were preserved, some were recreated from samples).
The first stage of work was completed in 2022. Restorers restored the most difficult and dangerous southern wing of the building. To date, work has been completed in the central part of the building, as well as in the western wing of the building.
The museum houses such historical documents as a handwritten application for admission to the Kazan Art School, “Report on the state of the Kazan Art School from 1896”, etc., ancient books, paintings by famous artists and original canvases whose authorship is unknown.
Today the Kazan Art School (in 1895 it was opened as the Kazan Art School) is one of the oldest educational organizations in Russia. 254 students study here (130 on a budgetary basis, 124 on a non-budgetary basis). Training in four areas - “Painting” (easel and theatrical and decorative), “Design” (general and costume design), “Decorative and Applied Arts” (artistic processing of leather), “Sculpture”.
Since 2022, the School of Creative Industries (SCI) has been operating on the basis of the school - additional education for children from 12 to 17 years old. ShKI was created within the framework of the federal project “Invented in Russia”, 200 teenagers study, and is located on the third floor of the building.
