50 years since the formation of teams of young traffic inspectors

7 February 2023, Tuesday

March 6, 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the formation of teams of young traffic inspectors. The activities of the JID teams are an integral part of the system of training children and adolescents in safe behavior skills on the road, helping to reduce accidents involving minors and raising competent and law-abiding road users.

The teams of young traffic inspectors began their history on March 6, 1973. On this day, by resolution of the Secretariat of the Komsomol Central Committee, the Collegium of the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs and the USSR Ministry of Education, the Regulations on detachments of young traffic inspectors were approved.

By the end of 1973, almost 14 thousand YID units were operating, and their rallies and competitions were organized. Two years later, the First All-Russian meeting of young traffic inspectors took place in the Orlyonok camp.

Young traffic inspectors of the Republic of Tatarstan at the country level first announced themselves in 1986. It was then that the republic’s team became the winner of the All-Russian cyclist competition “Safe Wheel”.

Today, 1,500 YID units are actively working in Tatarstan, uniting 19 thousand children in their ranks.

Activists of the UID movement, with the support of employees of the State Traffic Inspectorate and employees of the State Budgetary Institution “Road Safety”, carry out explanatory work with children on traffic rules in educational organizations, produce propaganda materials, campaign for road safety, participate in raids to prevent traffic violations by children, and distribute reflective elements and explain how to use them correctly to become more visible on the road.

They demonstrate their knowledge of traffic rules, first aid skills, and control of a bicycle on various figure obstacles and in the motor city at the “Safe Wheel” competitions.

Since 2017, a free specialized change of YID units has been held in a children's health camp.

To carry out information and propaganda support for events, on December 4, 2018, three children's press centers of the UID were opened in Kazan, Naberezhnye Chelny and Almetyevsk.

Since 2020, the activities of teachers-leaders of YID units are additionally stimulated by a cash bonus.

Republican competitions, webinars and forums are held annually.

Taking into account the high social significance of the work to prevent accidents involving minors, as well as in connection with the 50th anniversary of the creation of the JID units, large-scale information and propaganda campaigns will be held from February to May 2023 with the participation of employees of ministries, departments, organizations, and volunteers and representatives of the media.

The purpose of the actions is to popularize the Jewish movement, attract the general public to the problems of ensuring road safety, and reduce mortality and injuries as a result of road accidents.
